Grinding wheel is manufactured in a variety of shapes and sizes depending on the structure of the machine and the need for grinding. Table 6 shows the shape, size, code and usage of various commonly used grinding wheels. The outer diameter of the grinding wheel should be selected as large as possible to increase the peripheral speed of the grinding wheel, which is advantageous for improving the productivity of the grinding process and the roughness of the surface. In addition, in the conditions of rigidity and power of the machine tool that allow it, if the grinding wheel with a larger width is used, productivity and roughness can be improved. However, in the case of grinding heat-sensitive materials, in order to prevent workpiece surface burns and cracks, the width of the grinding wheel should be reduced appropriately.
